Serbia and Bosnia
In 1992, a religious war broke out between the neighboring countries Bosnia, Serbia, and Croatia. After the breakup of Yugoslavia, the Muslim Bosnians the Orthodox Serbs, and the Catholic Croats tried to pas a referendum for independence, but failed. This spiraled into a violent war which took the lives of over 105,000 people. Finally, after three years of battle, Bosnia and Croatia formed an alliance, and the war came to an end after the Dayton Agreement was signed in Paris, on December 21, 1995.
